Voices of the South 2017-2018 SEASON
November 9 – 12, 2017
Animal Farm by George Orwell
Animal Farm is one of the most recognized titles in literature and Voices of the South is pleased to present it as a fully realized theatrical production. Based on the Stalin era, Animal Farm is as relevant today as the time period of its first printing. It resonates with people living in today’s political hotbed where we are shaped not merely by events but by what we are told to believe about those events. We, like the animals of Manor Farm, allow rhetoric to shape our thoughts, causing fear and blurring the facts of history.

The J & K Cabaret
Memphis’ fantastic funny ladies are cozying up with a brand new installment of their hit J & K Cabaret series. That’s right, Jenny Odle Madden and Kim Justis are hitting the stage with an age-infused cabaret that is destined to twirl your socks. The self-same ladies that brought Memphis the hit show Parallel Lives are back to shower and serenade you with just enough torch and twang to make you shake off the winter blues. Intimate, smart, silly, and sassy, Jenny and Kim are sure to deliver a heaping helping of one or more of the following ingredients: music, comedy, ham, pluck, gumption, terrifically witty banter, and perhaps just a pinch of bitterness.
February 9 – 25, 2018
Elephant’s Graveyard by George Brant
Elephant’s Graveyard is the true tale of the tragic collision of a struggling circus and a tiny town in Tennessee, which resulted in the only known lynching of an elephant. Set in September of 1916, the play combines historical fact and legend, exploring the deep-seated American craving for spectacle, violence and revenge.
April 13 – 22, 2018
Voices of the South began because two actors wanted to take a show to the International Fringe Festival in Scotland. Voices of the South would like to offer performers an arena to perform their original adaptations, solo performance pieces, or original shows for Memphis audiences.
